The little egret was previously a rare visitor to the UK, but is now regularly spotted around the coastline of England and Wales.

The elegant neck plumes of an egret during the breeding season were once more valuable than gold and was one of the reasons for their declines in the 19th century.

Egrets stand motionless in the water when hunting, waiting for prey to come close enough, striking in a split second.
