London is awash with rumours of how these brilliant green birds made their way to London, from Jimi Hendrix letting some loose to escapees from Heathrow. However, the truth is that over the decades several individuals kept as pets have escaped, leading to a population climb. In fact, the earliest recorded sightings were in Dulwich in 1893 and Brixton in 1894.
Commonly considered a tropical bird, they can survive cold temperatures, as is evidenced by their native population in southern Asian in the Himalayas.
